For the Big Spender
You know that $4.5 million home we just mentioned? It has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Hollywood Hills from each of its oversized three bedrooms. The light-filled house also offers a fully stocked, ultra-modern kitchen and two soaking tubs (also with views) for maximum relaxation. Plus, you can get access to a number of luxury cars at extra cost (we’re talkin’ Rolls Royce Wraiths and Lamborghini Aventadors).
For the Solo Traveler
This private guest house in the Hollywood Hills offers the perfect studio space for one, complete with a kitchenette, work space for business travelers and digital nomads, beach-y outdoor shower (plus a luxe little bath inside), and a patio shared with the main house should you want to befriend the host, Mathias. (Know you have to climb stairs to get into the space, so it isn’t accessible for those with mobility concerns.)
For the Urbanite
Downtown L.A. is hopping these days—what with The Broad museum, great restaurants like Broken Spanish, and a bar scene that includes the pétanque- and foosball-filled Bar Clacson and The Varnish, a speakeasy within one of L.A.’s oldest restaurants, Cole’s. This one-bedroom loft puts you right in the middle of that action within steps of the Last Bookstore and Grand Central Market food hall. Its location in a Beaux-Arts apartment building also gives you access to a shared gym, rooftop, and pool (which has 360-degree views of downtown).
For the Girls’ Trip
Need space? This four-bedroom, two-bath Silver Lake home has lots of it—plus a backyard fire pit with plenty of seating for late-night catch-ups. There’s also a washer and dryer, full kitchen, and huge sofa that’ll fit the whole group. If you need even more space, there’s a one-bedroom guest house in the back also available for rent on Airbnb.
For the Whole Family
This bright two-bedroom home is just a 20-minute walk from the Venice Beach boardwalk, making its location hard to beat—even better, it’s on Venice’s famed “walking streets,” or pedestrian-only streets, giving you a bit more peace and quiet. But it’s the house’s interior that make it so family-friendly. Kids can romp around in the bunk bed room (plus one of the bathrooms has a tub), play in the fully fenced-in backyard, and crash on the living room’s bean bag sofa. The home’s listing says it can sleep six, but we’d stick with four—parents in the queen bed, kids in the two bunks—for more space.
For the Beach Bum
It doesn’t get much closer to the surf than this. While the Airbnb is in the residential part of Malibu—about an hour from downtown L.A. and a ten-minute drive from the Malibu Pier—the distance is worth it for these views. The airy, well-designed home has just one bedroom, perfect for a couple’s retreat or anniversary weekend. The open-floor living space, large wooden deck, and well-appointed kitchen mean you never have to leave. Bonus: Previous guests say they’ve seen pods of dolphins and seals from the beach house’s deck. We can only imagine the sunsets.
